About Me
With a warm hug and big smile, I welcome you to Lish ART.
My intention for this website is to effectively showcase my art, past and present, in a creative, inspiring and joyful way.
Perhaps you may find something that 'speaks to your soul' or 'catches your eye'. Enjoy!!
At present I work mainly by commission although it is my intention to branch out, develop a theme and work on a collection in acrylics.
A little about my journey:
I taught as an 'occasional teacher' (early learners/primary/art) until 2022, after retiring from a full-time grade one teaching position in 2014. This 'early' retirement was to not only to travel but to go back to school - as I got accepted into the Teaching English as a second language (TEFL) program in none other than beautiful Costa Rica. In retrospect, the decision to retire early to do this not only changed my life, but my youngest son's, who accompanied me. To this day, Costa Rica is an intregal experience/core memory that has shaped him and sparked his life path as an incredible person and photographer.
I spent much of my time there on the beach enjoying my surroundings and collecting natural treasures washed up along the shore! Inspired by this beauty and nature, 'driftWORD' ART was born, incorporating my love of texture, paint, with my love of words!
Since returning in 2015, life does what life does... it offers deep sorrow, pure joy, and change. But for us lucky ones, life goes on , much too quickly!
In 2019 a request from a family member to paint pets for xmas gifts turned this 'hobby' into a pet portrait business!
More crazy life events in 2020 allowed me the time to develop my entrepreneurial skills and art techniques further, thus LishART officially started. I am continuing to grow my LishART biz via social media including IG @by_lishart, repeat customers and word of mouth.
Also during covid lockdown in 2020 I revived my acrylic painting repertoire by participating in the #acrylicapril2020challenge with the @theartsherpa which also turned into a fundraiser for our local food bank. My goal is to keep developing this further to create my own style !
In the menu under "Blog" I have include a blog post from 2015 as it is a very special and personal piece about my LOON painting (Cry of a Loon)... in honour of my brother Chris who died in 2017 from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
In the future I hope to resuscitate my writing with stories that inspired my art or visa versa.
Also in the menu, you will see LishSTORE with information on commissioning and purchasing.
I have been painting pet portraits on ornaments and larger sizes for almost 4 years now and have happily started painting items for my son's photography space at Lake Louise. Check out my newest commissions on 57' unfinished paddles from Redtail Paddle Co.
Finally,
I enjoy and appreciate my hometown (since 1985) of Barrie, Ontario Canada.
Banff Alberta is now a second home for me as two of my four children are living and thriving in the western part of Canada amongst the mountains and beauty of Banff National Park.
I have a wonderful mom
Marilyn, 5 siblings
(RIP Dad and 'Bird')
and I'm a mom to
4 wonderful children
and their spouses.
I adore being called
'grammy'
by 5 precious souls.
I love and adore
our four-legged souls,
Ollie, Oscar and Gus!
(RIP Lexi, Skyler, Leia,
and Pepper)
I am truly blessed.
Thanks for dropping by.
